I like the Nintendo DS. This is sort of hard for me to say because growing up I had a Sega Genesis. I never had an NES or SNES or N64, even though I'm sure all were fine systems, I just never cared about them. I played all three plenty of times at friends' houses, but that was about the extent of it (my ex-girlfriend used to decimate me at Dr. Mario... so embarrassing).
When the DS was announced, I was skeptical. Dual screens, one of them a touch screen, seemed like a gimmick. The initial offering of games didn't do much for me either. However, when Mario Kart was announced, complete with Nintendo WiFi support (meaning you can play anyone, anywhere in the world), I caved. Mario Kart itself is a lot of fun, if not retardedly frustrating, but playing games against other people was the best part, though voice communication would have been a nice addition I suppose.
And of course as I predicted over a year ago
, Nintendo is releasing a streamlined version of the DS; the DS Lite. They came so close to making it perfect, except the GBA carts apparently stick out
, which I guess isn't the worst thing in the world, but it still annoys me. Also I'm sure the buttons are still too small. I know their target audience is six year old children, but damnit these games are fun, and my fingers are huge compared to those buttons.
In more cool news, Opera is making a browser for the DS
, which means I will shortly be able to look at porn
look up recipes while I'm taking a shit
laying in bed, which is damned cool in that geeky sort of way.
And that's all I have to say about that.
